EXPLORE HOPI AND HOPI CULTURAL CENTER COLLABORATE TO HOST FAM TOUR!!
On Friday, September 13,2013, Explore Hopi and the Hopi Cultural Center teamed up to host a FAM tour as a way of networking with businesses off the Hopi reservation. Our goal, being able to spread the word of Explore Hopi and bring visitors to experience Hopi and all it has to offer.  Our guests involved came from the surrounding Chamber of Commerce (Holbrook, Flagstaff and Sedona), tour companies, reporters, and from Arizona State Tourism Office . The guests were greeted my members of the Explore Hopi Team, Carliss Sinquah and Hannah Honani. Introductions were given by Explore Hopi Director, Clarice Tafoya, Hopi Cultural Center General Manger, Darren Tungovia, Pat Browning, Hopi 3 Canyon Ranches, and Hopi Tribe Economic Development Corporation CEO, Kevin Lombardo. They explained the mission and collaboration efforts among HTEDC entities and of Explore Hopi as well as the goal of what we hoped our guests can come away with at the end of the day. Demonstrators were on site to entertain and educate FAM tour participants. Garrett Honahnie demonstrated kachina doll carving, Dianna Shebola exhibited "kutuki", or parched corn, and Dianna Setalla showed off her pottery. Along with the education theme, guests had the opportunity to tour on-site Povi Gallery and the Hopi Museum. The FAM tour then continued on with an traditional style lunch that consisted of "Noqwivi", or the traditional lamb stew with hominy, blue corn frybread, and green chili. For dessert our guests were able to enjoy the "Tsukus Delight", a signature item only the Hopi Cultural Center offers, that consists of frybread tossed in cinnamon sugar, topped with vanilla ice cream and chocolate syrup. Soon after lunch our guests were sent off on a tour to Dawa Park with well-known Hopi tour guide, Gary Tso. Dawa Park is a petroglyph site on Hopi with many years of history and significance.
At the conclusion to the FAM tour, our guests were left with an experience to take back and share with others. They are able to come away with saying " I have been to the Center of the Universe".
